On Wednesday, in a surprising development, Manchester United announced Mason Mount would wear the club’s iconic No 7 shirt. Many had previously expected Alejandro Garnacho to be given that honour instead. But the 19-year-old isn’t the only player to have been denied the privilege, with Jadon Sancho also suffering upon moving to Old Trafford two years ago.
Manchester United confirmed the signing of Mount from Chelsea on Wednesday, with the midfielder moving for an initial fee of £55million.

Instead, he’s now poised to stick with the No 49 he wore last season.
And he was in no mood to give up the digit to a younger team-mate, having already made his mark in football by that point.
The United star will either knuckle down and try and prove a point, or sulk and allow it to get to him.
And Mount also revealed he watched Ronaldo score a stunning free-kick for United against Portsmouth way back in 2008.
