Manchester United prospective buyer Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani might ultimately have to give Erik ten Hag a tighter transfer budget than the Glazer family due to Financial Fair Play restrictions. New cost control measures are set to impact any Red Devils buyer.

Sheikh Jassim has long been the favourite to complete a blockbuster £6billion purchase of the Premier League club. The Qatari prince is battling with British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s petrochemicals giant, INEOS.

In April 2022, UEFA announced a fresh set of cost control measures in the wake of the impacts of COVID-19. Currently, clubs playing under UEFA’s jurisdiction are allowed to spend 90 per-cent of their revenues on player and coach wages, transfers, and agent fees.

The Athletic report that United are ‘confident’ their squad cost ratio will fall below the threshold. Due to such high revenues, the club supposedly claim it has historically managed to keep within FFP restrictions.
