Liverpool reportedly need Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia to take action and make it clear that he wants to move to Anfield in order to get a transfer over the line. Lavia starred for the Saints during his maiden campaign in Hampshire after joining the club from Manchester City last summer but looks set to depart his current employers after they were relegated to the Championship.
Liverpool endured a miserable season last time out after suffering a precipitous downturn in form compared to previous seasons. Despite rallying late on, Jurgen Klopp’s team could only muster a fifth-place Premier League finish and ultimately missed out on Champions League qualification.
The Merseyside giants aren’t compelled to move any of their current midfielders on before they sign the player if circumstances align, although they would prefer to do so. And they view Lavia as someone who could provide them with a long term anchor in midfield.
Liverpool spent £35m, which could rise to £55m, to snap up World Cup winner Mac Allister and backed that up with a further £60m spend on Szoboszlai. And Klopp will be hoping his early transfer endeavours will send a message to the Reds’ Premier League rivals that his team will be back in the title race next season.
