Chelsea have reportedly received two offers from Porto since January to take Andrey Santos on loan for the 2023/24 campaign. The 19-year-old signed for Chelsea at the start of the year and is said to be regarded as “something special” by new Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Chelsea snapped Santos up from Vasco da Gama in exchange for £18million and allowed the teenager to stay in Brazil for the first half of this year. The midfielder, who has starred for the Brazil under-20s side, helped Vasco win promotion to Brasileiro Serie A last season and appeared 49 times for the South American giants before touching down in London this summer to begin his Chelsea career.
Journalist Graeme Bailey has been able to offer some insight into the player’s situation in the capital and recently told the Talking Transfers podcast: “Andrey Santos, I’m fascinated by this guy. I think he is going to be something special. They think there is something special there as well.”
Porto, on the other hand, finished second in the Primeira Liga League table. Ironically, if Santos were to swap London for north Portugal, he would have the opportunity to play Champions League football. And Pochettino could well decide that the youngster would gain invaluable experience by plying his trade with a team competing in Europe’s top-tier club competition.
