Former Los Angeles Lakers star Shaquille O'Neal has been hitting the gym after opening up on a "really bad year" both physically and mentally. The 51-year-old recently gave an insight into his fitness plan via Instagram and how he has found motivation to get his fitness back on track.

The four-time NBA champion stands at over 7 feet and is known for being one of the strongest athletes that basketball has seen. Shaq was also known for his great technical abilities, earning three NBA Finals MVP awards and 15 NBA all-star accolades.

After retiring Shaq revealed he spent less time looking after himself and saw his fitness fall by the wayside. O'Neal revealed he has managed to get his fitness, and his abs, back in an interview with Men's Journal in June 2021.

Shaq's desire to improve his fitness also came after a dark period in his life following the death of his sister and former teammate Kobe Bryant. He said: "My sister passed away before Kobe. And then Kobe passed away and then I had 28 other people pass away. [2020] was a really bad year and I didn’t want to do anything.
