Liverpool have been told that signing former Manchester United loanee Marcel Sabitzer is “almost too good to turn down” as Jurgen Klopp continues to overhaul his midfield. The Reds have added both Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai already this window and are pressing forward to land a third midfielder before the window closes.

Sabitzer spent the second half of the season on loan at United following injury to Christian Eriksen, as the Austrian deputised ably in his absence. There was an option to buy him permanently from Bayern Munich, but United last week announced that both he and fellow loanee Wout Weghorst have returned to their parent clubs.

“Marcel Sabitzer, who was only on loan, has now returned to Bayern Munich. There have been recent reports that the Bavarians are happy for the Austrian to leave permanently for a fee of just €15m (£12.5m),” Collymore wrote in his CaughtOffside column.

Liverpool seem to have focused on Arsenal target Romeo Lavia, however, as someone that can play more of a holding role compared to Mac Allister and Szoboszlai. Klopp’s outfit are reportedly preparing an opening bid for the Southampton starlet, though the relegated side are demanding upwards of £40m for the Belgian.
