Chelsea could splash out a total of £150million on transfers by the time that Mauricio Pochettino has crafted his squad to how he wants it to look. The 51-year-old officially began working with his new players on Monday after arriving at their Cobham training ground and he has already laid down the gauntlet to his underachieving stars to transform themselves into 'animals'. Some players might struggle to get there straight away, but Pochettino already has one new signing cut from that cloth ready to get stuck in.

In his first interview, Pochettino set out his expectations for his players to work harder than ever before and channel their aggression to become a feared side again.

With eight key players already departing this summer, the Blues have gutted their squad of players who are not aligned with the new order and brought in those more suited to his demands.

“He has improved a lot. He has this street football style, but it is increasingly productive," he told Mais Futebol back in April. "He is managing to reconcile being entertaining, because he brings spectacle to the game, with better statistics.

He was handed his Benfica debut in May 2022 at the age of just 17 and joins a wave of new youngsters under the age of 21 heading to Stamford Bridge, with Todd Boehly investing over £100m on talents for the future alone.
