Sheikh Jassim’s last bid for Manchester United has seemingly given him an advantage in the race to buy the club, according to reports. The mysterious figure launched his fifth offer for the club over a month ago. And though the Glazers are yet to pick a preferred candidate, a deal appears to be edging closer behind the scenes.

The Athletic say Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s last bid were for enough of the Glazers’ shares to give him control of the club.

And it would also enable them to avoid any ‘nasty legal arguments about minority-shareholders rights’.

“We still very much would like to do it. There is still a process, we are in the process,” he said.

And that’s despite Business journalist David Hellier last week saying Ratcliffe’s bid for United was ‘dead in the water’.

“The minority holders are slightly aggressive funds, mainly in the US there are some in the UK.
