Rio Ferdinand says that Manchester United are being 'held back and suffocated by negative energy' under the Glazers. And the Red Devils legend believes the club will miss out on signing a star striker this summer as a result.

Ferdinand wants to see United go 'all in' on top targets Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen but fears the Glazers are blocking the move. Erik ten Hag has been given a £120million budget this summer and has already used half of it on Mason Mount.

He said on his FIVE YouTube channel: "New ownership will bring a new direction and new energy will go throughout the club. It needs it right now. The club is being held back and down and suffocated with negative energy because of the owners.

"You look at the squad last season and we had a number nine who scored zero goals. A number nine is the priority. If I'm a number nine looking at United, I'm thinking, 'No ownership completed yet, no real direction of where the club is going, if new owners do come in does the direction of the club change? I've got so many questions, how can I commit?'”
