Romeo Lavia might be ‘too expensive’ for Manchester United to try and sign him it has been claimed. Liverpool are leading the race for his signature with Arsenal and Chelsea also keen on the midfielder, who is expected to be on the move this summer.

Lavia only joined Southampton 12 months ago but their relegation to the Championship has seen clubs circle for the Belgium international. Chelsea even tried to sign Lavia just two months after he joined the Saints in the same window.

That is likely because the Red Devils are focused on other priorities. Erik ten Hag wants a new goalkeeper, with Inter Milan’s £43m Andre Onana a leading candidate, and a centre-forward with Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta one of the options on the club's shortlist. The young Dane, 20, would cost at least £51m however.

Chelsea have offloaded Mount to Man United, Mateo Kovacic to Manchester City and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to AC Milan with N’Golo Kante heading to Saudi Arabia on a free transfer. While they are keen on Caicedo, they would also like to sign Lavia.
